I was diagnosed with "severe and chronic hypotension in September of 1995," with my doctor prescribing, among other medications, Disopyramide and Atenelol. (I was 60 years old at the time and working in the Validation Department of Biocraft Industries (since taken over by New Jersey-based Teva Pharmaceuticals).
Subsequent tilt-table tests proved that I was unable to stand for more than 20 minutes without collapsing. Actually, the last tilt I took indicated a blood-pressure reading of 66/29 in the vertical position, which was approximately 3 years ago.
In the spring of 1998, the doctor treating me for this condition put me on Promatine, along with Florinef and Metoprolol. Since that time, I have benefitted to the extent where I can do the following: stand on line at a bank, wait in line at a supermarket, have conversations while I am standing, et cetera.
My medicine regimen is as follows: 1 Proamatine and 1 Florinef at 6 A.M., return to bed immediately for an hour. At 8 A.M., I take 1 Metoprolol. At 11 A.M., I take 2 Promatine, and at 5 P.M., I take my last Proamatine. At 8 P.M., I take half-tablet of Metoprolol.
The strenghths of my medications are: Proamatine: 5mg Metoprolol: 50 mg Florinef: 0.lmg
While I am greatly improved since my initial diagnosis more than 6 years ago, I still have what I consider "disappointments." I must be aware of my surroundings (are there nearby seats available?) and be especially vigilant in the morning.
In closing, I am a Caucasian male, 66 years old, 5'10", 139 pounds (have always been slim), get plenty of rest/sleep, drink water all the time, do not smoke nor drink, and walk 2-4 miles/day on the nearby boardwalk.
Hoping I haven't bored you too much, and thanking you for the forum to express myself, I am
