Hello all,
I have been having these passing out episodes since I was about 8. I am now 35. There were times where I went a year or maybe even 2 without having it happen and then other years it would happen 2 or 3 times. Like a lot of posters here the reasons were always different. Although they almost all involved some type of physical pain (cut finger, hit with hammer, stubbed toe, head injury etc) there were many other times in my life where more severe pain (broken ankles) did not cause me to go out. It almost seems like the emotional reaction to the situation is as important as the pain itself. A couple of weeks ago I passed out in the doctors office after having blood taken for a routine physical. I have had blood taken countless times before without any problem. It seemed that once I started THINKING about passing out the onset of symptoms started and before I knew it I was out. Needless to say this led my doctor to set me up for some tests and refer me to a heart specialist. I did the tilt table yesterday and did not pass out after 40 minutes. I was told my pressure did drop a couple of times. I am going to the heart doctor next week. Until yesterday I had not heard the term Vaso Vagal. One quick search led me here and let me tell you after about an hour of reading through old posts I feel great. I had no idea that what I have lived with is so common.
Thanks for letting me say all that - now my question. Does anyone else think that the emotional response to a physical event cause the passing out? Have you had different responses to the same event (pass out in one case & not pass out in another). Lastly, does it seem to amyone that by just thinking about passing out and becoming more nervouse about it that you can cause yourself to pass out? Lately it seems that by thinking about it under certain situations (no physical tramua involved) that I can begin to feel like I may actually pass out.
Thanks for any info
