I am 46 years old and believe I have had vaso-vagal episodes for the last 28 years. My episodes usually take place when I encounter some type of medical trauma. A fever has resulted in a seizure as well as ear examination, trying on contact lenses, bee sting, and just yesterday while receiving electrical stimulation for tennis elbow. I have had these unexplained seizures about once a year. Yesterdays seizure was of about a minute duration and was followed by nausea and vomiting. I was tested by a neurologist years ago and told that there was nothing to be found. He indicated that it was vaso-vagal and gave me no advice on how to handle it. As a result, I generally try to avoid medical situations although I did have 2 kids with no problems. I generally warn doctors and nurses that I may faint and this has usually stopped me from doing so. Yesterday, after I came to the therapist saind that my pulse was normal but my blood pressure was a bit high. Is this a normal reaction in stress? He said to check it again in the pharmacy, but as you can imagine, I have an irrational fear of passing out on that machine in the pharmacy and causing a scene. Any suggestions? I am an otherwise active person who plays tennis 3-4 times a week and takes care of my husband and two teenagers. Incidently, my neice who is 16 and a ballet dancer had a problem this year with high blood pressure and feeling faint. After lengthy examination, the doctors found nothing wrong and mentionned migraines, vaso-vagal etc. Is this a hereditory thing? Any comments?
