Hi all, I'm seeking information on diagnostic testing & v-v treatment for my young child (age 5). I'll take him to a doctor, of course, but his doctor knows little about this ... especially as it relates to young children. So I must educate myself and share info with him.

So far, the safest, most-conservative treatments I've seen in this forum pertain to increasing consumption of salt & water, wearing clothing that helps force fluids higher in the body, tensing muscles, lying down at first sign of symptoms, & cold compresses at back of neck.

Has anyone tried inhaling vapors of "aromatic spirits of ammonia" to interrupt an episode before losing consciousness?

Does inhaling ammonia vapors prevent fainting if administered before losing consciousness? Or, if one is not that quick, will it revive a v-v sufferer who has already fainted?

Is ammonia inhalant safe?

How does it work? What is the chemical/biological mechanism?

C'mon folks! Please tell me! I KNOW I'm not the first person to think of using this stuff for v-v episodes. So ... why are there no posts saying "ammonia works for me"? Maybe because it doesn't work for anyone?

Please resond!

Thanks,

Julianne
