ever since i was seven years old (i am now 41) i would pass out whilst eating. My mum seems to think it started after i had hooping cough. Up until i was 16 years old i was treated for petit-mal.For some reason no one ever looked at the fact that i only ever passed out only whilst swallowing. It was only 8 years ago that some one monitored my heart over a 24hr period and found out that my heart was completely stopping whilst i was eating. Only certain textures of food affect me,ie fine textures like bread, cake, peanut butter.I had a pacemaker fitted about 8 years ago and have not blacked out aince although i am aware when ever my pacemaker is needed to kick in and have a heavy feeling radiating down my chest. i have never met anyone with this condition and would be interested to hear of anyone else who has this.my Doctor gave me the name of vasal vagal response syndrome but it does sound a little different from what you have commented on.I did experience the 'going into the tunnel' sensation.
