My experience has been that my vaso-vagal episodes can be triggered by a variety of different digestive problems -- eating a large meal in a crowded restaurant, gas discomfort, heartburn, abdominal cramping, the flu, but there usually is another factor that causes anxiety, like standing in a crowd, making a speech on stage, seeing a new doctor, getting a shot, etc. Usually it takes the two things together to begin a fainting episode.
