I was diagnosed with vaso vagal syncope this summer after having it for a little over a year, and for a while everything they told me to do was working and it was under control. For some reason, though, it's been out of control for the last couple of months. I've been passing out on an average of 4-5 times a week, and nothing I do seems to make it any better. Occasionally I have days like today, where I pass out every time I stand up and every time I pass out I stay unconscious longer--up to 20 minutes. The doctors are now questioning my diagnosis, although they're not ruling it out, but they're doing a lot of tests and not finding anything wrong. I make sure I eat three regular meals, eat enough salt, drink enough, drink lots of Gatorade, don't stand up too fast, etc., and nothing is helping. The biggest problem is that I'm a college student and I live on campus, and every time I don't wake up right away they're required to call an ambulance (although I can refuse transportation to the hospital). It makes it really hard to get to classes, and if it keeps happening I may have to leave school again. Does anyone else stay unconscious for long periods of time? Are there any suggestions for what I could do to make it better?
