My son was diagnosed after passing out at school after gym class in Feb of 2005 (age 12). He loves to be active and is an athlete so it has been very difficult. The best balance we have found is Florinef .1mg twice a day and salt tabs 1 gm four times a day. That with eating salty foods, drinking a lot of fluids and staying away from sugar has helped tremendously. Before the salt tablets he was drinking a lot of water to rehydrate but what it was doing was dehydrating him more because his body wasn't getting enough salt. Now he can drink more water and decrease the gatorade or powerade. When he has an episode his blood pressure drops and his pulse races. It always relates to dehydration even the littlest amount. He had three episodes at football pratice last night, since starting this regime but we recently moved to Colorado from the east coast and the elevation and heat has caused some problems. He is not yet acclimated. Anyone know a good cardiologist that works with vaso-depressor syncope in this area that we can hook up with. This is not a pschological problem and don't let anyone tell you it is. It is a physiological condition with the body trying to maintain fluid balance. I believe his condition started long before he started passing out. Signs were confusion, disorientation, irritability. Since getting stabalized he is more focused, not irritable, doesn't get confused and improved memory. His report cards and attention at school are like night and day since diagnosis and improved treatment. If he gets the flu he may need IV fluids to rehydrate but that can be handled. Getting aclimated to this heat and altitude are going to be a little tougher.

A note from my son on his condition:

Hey, im Paul this condition as messed me up my intire life.I started taking Florinef (I think thats how you spell it) and salt tablits which have helped a lot. But still the littlest thing can throw me off for weeks. Last night I was at football pratice and had three episods in the same night which forced me to quite. After that my mom started doing reaserch to finde me more and more ways to help stabilize my condition and she found this websight which has been extreenly helpful so thank you.
