Tilt table test

Can anybody explain to me about the tilt table test and what it does? I have recently been told I have suffered VV attacks, possibly brought on by IBS. I live in England and not much seems to be known about it except that my GP told me "VV is a posh name for feinting". To me its alot more scarey than just feinting and lasts much longer. Water, salt and rest help, but don't make it go away. Any other tips please?
