I was at a meeting yesterday and all of a sudden I felt extremely lightheaded, nauseated, short of breath and shaky. I was afraid I was having a heart attach except there was no pain in the chest or arms. As I began to worry I started having heart palpitations and my blood pressure shot through the roof for me. It was recorded at 168/98 at the hospital. The emergency room doctor did blood tests, ekg and chest xrays and said nothing was amiss so he diagnosed it as a vasovagal event. I had never heard of this before and was simply wondering if he was right and if so what should I do about it or expect from it in the future? Are there typical triggers? Is it dangerous? Are there underlying causes that would not be picked up in an emergency room? Please help me if you can. I am really baffled. Thanks so much for any insight you can give me.
