My experience with problems when driving is this. If I start to cough, or choke a little from a drink or food, or even just cough heavily without any intake, I can black out very quickly. This has led to my being prepared to stop on the shoulder almost instantly if a cough begins. I also notify others who ride with me to be prepared to take the wheel. I recover quickly from these rare episodes with no apparent aftereffects.
