I also have been awakened in the middle of the night with intense abdominal cramping which preceeded passing out. I awoke to hot sweats, ears ringing, room spins, and them extreme nausea. I did discuss this with my Dr. and she said that sometimes this stomach cramping can occur just before a mentrual cycle or during times you are ovulating. I have had several months in a row where this would occur during these times of my cycle, just like clockwork. I don't know if there is anything speciific you can do to prevent it from happenening, but I think just the awareness of why this can be occuring is helpful.
