stomach problems

my father has plural mesothelioma (asbestos cancer) and along with it, though unreleated, has stomach distension, bloating and a lot of gas. He has difficulty eating due to the pain. A doctor suggested that a tumor in his chest wall may have damaged the vaso-vagal nerve which would cause the problems with his stomach. Has anyone heard of this and if so, what is the relief?
