I am now 66 and have experienced weird happenings after I had open heart surgery (2 titanium valves Mitral and Aortic replaced). I have very low blood pressure and was borderline anemic and have a chronic atrial fibrilation. I also had a stroke 3 1/2 yrs. ago and a heart attack 3 yrs. ago - my open heart surgery was done 2 1/2 yrs. ago. During my stroke I developed an involuntary twitch in my left leg (that was the side that was paralyzed). At this time it is still there, but very minor. I lost a lot of sleep because of it as it happened mostly at night. After my heart surgery, I became ill several times with a drained and weak feeling and somewhat sweaty which happened when I felt I had to move my bowels. I was frightened and called 911 more than once and the last time I called one of the EMS people asked me to inquire with my doctor about a vegal response problem??? Also, during this seizure, my blood pressure dropped so low they barely got a reading. It was scary. I have asked several doctors and no one has an answer. I recently went to a neurologist and he had tests taken which showed that I had damage in my brain on the right side from the stroke and I had mild neupathy in my feet and possibly Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy in my left foot. I also have a lot of problems with leg cramps every time I have to move my bowels. I just had this happen which has kept me awake until now. I cannot sleep well many nights and am becoming frazzled. I sometimes feel like a Zombie. Whom can I find to help me? What kind of a doctor? I did a little research on the internet and read some "stuff" about the sympathetic nerve also. Is this making any sense to anyone? Is the sympathetic nerve in any way related to the vegus nerve. I need some help desperately because the lack of sleep because of the cramps and pressure to move my bowels is really taking a toll on me. I had a colonoscopy last Wednesday and was given a clear bill of health--see you in 5 years. I thought maybe that would show something. Do I have a vegal response? H E L P ! I don't even know if what I am writing is understandable--the doctors don't respond to my questions.
