vasovagal - a garbage can diagnosis?

hummmmmmmmmmmmmm, where to start? My girlfriend started to vomit and once started , well, she couldn't stop and passed out. We rushed her to the hospital where they diagnosed it as being vasovagal syncope(check out parasympathetic system - VAGUS NERVE or go to http://www.mayoclinic.com/invoke.cfm?objectid=C2B5F18B-CC7E-4EEC-B2374499735E1CCC). What I find so interesting from all the articles posted is that, some mention passing out due to a "trigger effect" (ie, having a severe migraine or passing out at the sight of blood or if you hear someone gag and vomit then you automatically get nauseous and start to gag and vomit and pass out etc...) whereas others just pass out without any type of trigger. In all cases however, the person is diagnosed with vasovagal syncope just because they passed out!!!!! (par for the course because vasovagal syncope means "to pass out")

Now, I can understand that some people pass out because they have an intolerance to some things (trigger effect) and in that particular case we can say 1 plus 1 equals syncope. But for those of you that pass out without the "trigger" then the equation becomes 1 plus 1 equals ????

This syncope stuff must be really scary for all of you because it scared the jeepers out of me (let alone my girlfriend) when it happened to her. Atleast we know what her trigger is. But for those that don't know what your trigger is, well.... my heart really goes out to you.

Also, one idiot Dr. mentioned installing a pacemaker (she's 31) to fix her problem even though she passed all her blood work, cardiac, brain tests. After consulting with 2 friends (chief cardiologists) they said NEVER, EVER would they install a pacemaker in someone her age unless the patient absolutely needed it so that they wouldn't fall to their death.

In ending, If you aren't satisfied with what your Dr says..... get a second, third and forth opinion.
