My symptoms were similar. 50 mg atenolol works enough for me. 25 was insufficient. 100mg would be better except that would counter some other medications. View the process as follows, and you will see that lying down is not the answer. Adrenaline release, which may triggered by many things, dilates the arteries, which lowers blood pressure. If physical activity is not increased, then the heart sees insufficient blood in its chambers and waits indefinitely for its next beat -- it stops. The brain detects loss of oxygen and forces muscle contraction (which looks like a seizure) to increase blood flow and restart the heart. Atenolol blocks the response to adrenaline. Any time the atenolol's action is incomplete, tense the muscles, be active, to force blood into the heart and raise the heart rate. I know it is counter to the standard vaso vagal dogma, but I suffered under the standard dogma for 44years, and now I have not had an episode in over a year. Good luck
