Hi everyone.
Today my Dr brought up the Vagal Nerve when I explained my "attacks" to her, more about them later.
I'm feeling a little over loaded with the medical info online & wonder if anyone can give me a idea of what the nerve is & what it does in layman's terms.
My "attacks" as I call them started about 2 years after I got my first period. The first years were doozies. I would feel pressure like a bowel movement which then was replaced with agonizing pain, nausea, diarreah, drop in body temp, sweat would run off me (I always sought a fan for my face) when it was over I'd sleep for hours. Tylenol and Motrin tend to be of little help if I don't take it before the pressure stops and the pain starts.
Over the past 17 years or so they've dropped from 3-6 times a year to just 2 in the last 3 and a 1/2 years (after giving birth they dropped dramatically). I never fainted or felt faint but I did get a little dizzy. The last episode lasted less than a 1/2 hour and there were no gastro-intestinal symptoms or nausea.
I've also recently learned that my father has had similar "pains" through out his life - mostly they wake him during the night and he can't sleep until they're gone. I seem to be "growing out of it" but I'd still like info so I know what to watch for in my own kids just incase.
