I have just been diagnosed with Vaso-Vagal syndrome. I have been having GI tests. One VV attack occured after I got home and was sleeping off the medication from the Gastroscopy. It was determined that I have a Hiatal Hernia and an excessive amount of Bile acid and GERD. Next , the doctor ordered a Colonsocopy (there is a strong family history of colon cancer)..I got as far as the prep and had an attack after taking the phoso powder. I ended up in the emergency room. I am a 56 yr. old female. I have had numerous "attacks" in the past. This is the first time someone actually called it something. I was so tired of hearing it was in my head...due to anxiety etc. I have had them at work . I have had them in Doctors offices. I have had them at amusement parks. I have had them in air planes. I have had them in the middle of the night. I have had them in the afternoon. I have had them on vacation. They were too numerous to mention. I now know that I had them when I was pregnant. I have been on Medical Disability for four years. I no longer work. I do not want to out for fear that I will have one. It is a constant in my life. I dread going to the doctors. the hospital. I have had them at meetings, at funeral homes...sometimes I think that I am going to lose it! Is there a cure for this? Just reading your articles on this web site has gotten me so anxious I feel as if I will have another one. Can you or anyone give me some advice as to what I can do or not do to avoid this. I have severe digestive symptoms, dizziness, pins and needles, severe sweating, low blood pressure and horrible let loose biles sometimes with vomitting at the same time.I do not pass out but feel like I will. I lay down and this seems to keep me conscious but it is very hard to stay on the toliet and throw up and lay down at the same time. As I said I am a 56 yr old female, I have had my Gall bladder removed, I have had two D.C. surgeries including one tubal ligation, I have had a Casesarean section and a Lumpectomy (benign) of the right breast. I have a cyst on my liver. I have firomyalgia, chronic fatigue, and Arthritis. I have a rash on my face and neck and constant itching. I have been told I do not have Hepatitis C or any other. Although I have been told I have a fatty liver and that my tryglycerides are high. I have high blood pressure and hypogylcemia. Of all the things I have mentioned , the one that bothers me the most is this VV....it scares the hell out of me. I am under the care of Doctors...but they seem to dismiss this..why? Are they afraid that my Anxiety Disorder will just make it worse. I need to know what I can do to get this under control. It has affected my whole life. I am on Prilosec, Questran, Zoloft, Hydrochoridizide, and 500mg. Naprosyn for pain (only take that when needed) I also take zyrtec for the itch. I have been having change in bowel habits that is why I must undergo this Colonoscopy. They are going to take me into the hospital to do the test so that they can monitor all phases of the test. I feel like a guinea pig...they are just trying to see if the VV is due to anxiety ...I am afraid they want to cause one to occur just so they can confirm the diagnosis. Even if it is VV, the Gastroenderolgist said there is nothing I can do to prevent the episodes. Does anyone else out there have any suggestions ...am I the only one who has come to this point . H. E.
