6 month old baby - vagal episode?

My 6 month old baby woke up from a nap vomiting violantly. As soon as I picked him up he began to vomit again. The amount of liquid that he was throwing up was alarming. I tried to give him pedialyte but he choked. Soon after he became ghostly pale, limp, and unresponsive. As my neighbor drove us to the hospital, I tried to get a response from my baby. He could barely keep his eyes open and when he did, they were unfocused. When we arrived at the hospital he seemed to snap out of it. The doctor said he probably had a vagal episode. Does this sound right? If so, what could have caused this. He had formula prior to his nap. The formula was the remainder of an earlier bottle that he did not finish. Could spoiled formula do this? I appreciate any comments
