My first Vaso Vagal attack

I'm 16 years old and I saw my doctor today after nearly fainting in school. This was not the first time I have felt like I wass going to faint, but it was the worst. As soon as I was about to faint I sat down and drank a ton of water. I went home and ate food as well. My doctor is was probably a Vaso Vagal episode. She says it's common when someone haven't eaten and when they're on their period, (which I am.) My question is: Is it possible to have just one "episode" or does this mean this will continue happening to me? Do some people have Vaso Vagal syndrome more severely than others? Also, can I do anything to prevent it? I know I should eat salt and drink water, but is there anything else? My last question is: Is this linked to heart disease? My mom had a Micro Valve Prolapse, (I think that's how it's spelled.) he also had a Cardiac Arrest. I had an EKG about a year ago and everything was fine, but is this something I should check on again? Any help or insight anyone can give me will eb greatly appreciated. Thank you so much.
