Your BF's events sound very similar to mine. I've been having these episodes since I was about 8, I'm 40 now. I was misdiagnosed with epilepsy when I was 20 because they can appear very similar to a seizure. From what I've read, there isn't any evidence those of us with VV are any more likely to die, even those who's heart actually stops. So don't worry about that. I post on a couple of other forums and it seems to me that most of the medicines used for this don't help most people and the side effects can be pretty bad, but a few are helped. The consensus seems to be that increased salt and water intake to increase blood volume is the most helpful. As to the SSRI - it seems to help some people. I've personally found that all antidepressants make it worse for me. Its a very "individual" disorder, which of course makes it especially difficult to know what to do about it. Maggie
